Thrilld Labs Partners with Monerotopia

We’re thrilld to announce a partnership with MoneroTopia, happening at the Huerto Roma Verde in the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City on February 12-15th. Monerotopia is for cypherpunks, developers, activists, and builders working on privacy tech, decentralized finance, and real-world crypto adoption.

Monerotopia is an annual conference in its fourth edition. It was first held in Miami in 2022 and has since taken place at the Huerto Roma Verde. Key topics include: digital cash technologies, how to escape the current fiat money system, financial privacy tools, ongoing project presentations and demos before launch, and discussions on alternative economics and practical crypto adoption strategies among others.

With this in mind, the name Monerotopia comes from its roots in the Monero cryptocurrency community, where the event aims to give a taste of what a Monero-based utopia would feel like, even if it’s just for a few days. The event is organized by the team behind Monero Talk, a YouTube channel and community broadcasting weekly conversations with topical guests to understand what the Monero cryptocurrency is today and what it hopes to become.

The conference has two main components, the know-how of technical talks and workshops alongside a live, open-air marketplace where Monero and other privacy-focused digital cash are used person-to-person for real commerce.

With this dual approach, at Monerotopia attendees can look forward to: 

• Privacy-tech talks (English & Spanish), opt-out workshops, adoption-athon;
• International & local speakers such as Monero developers Rucknium and Jeffro, the Operations Manager at Cake Wallet Tuxsudo, CEO/co-Founder of Edge Paul Puey, and other influential activists, and personalities from the world of development and privacy tech; 
• Workshops that put talks into practice and attendees walk away with the tools to run a system like Tails, Tor, and jump into other technical ventures; 
• The festivity of Mexico City with live music – from DJ to folk dances – and a bustling open market going on; 
• Aaannd the Monero bazaar, where people use Monero for everyday transactions!

Indeed, at the open-air XMR bazaar, vendors everywhere accept Monero for freshly prepared food to designer goods, mushrooms, tequila, traditional artisan clothing and whatever else. Many of the vendors are already familiar with Monero and some even accept Monero outside of the conference too. The organizers write: “There’s something for everyone, with the twist that every single stall accepts Monero as an alternative payment method, so you can test out, person-to-person, how an uncensorable digital cash business actually works.” Hence, one of the event’s highlights, the live and daily drive of crypto adoption!

For those attending, it would also be a good chance to check out the excitement of Mexico City. As the capital and largest city of Mexico, even the most populous in North America, Mexico City is an important financial center and global city. Perhaps alongside Monerotopia, it is also worthwhile to check a few of the many attractions in the city. From cultural and art sites like the Museo Frida Kahlo or Palacio de Bellas Artes, or museum and architectural styles, to local markets and restaurants.

We’d also add here, Mexico City is considered by some as the oldest capital city in the Americas, founded by indigenous peoples. It was originally built on a group of islands in Lake Texcoco by the Mexica around 1325, then-called Tenochtitlan. Needless to say, for a trip on its own, Mexico City has a lot in store to explore (in addition to a cool crypto event of course ;)).
