We’re thrilld to announce a networking partnership with Ethiopian Blockchain Week as it returns to Addis Ababa this July 31 - August 1st. Following a successful 2025 edition that welcomed over 1,000 attendees, the 2026 conference is expected to bring together 1,500 attendees and over 25 speakers from 50 countries, continuing the team’s mission of strengthening Ethiopia’s growing blockchain space whilst connecting it to the wider global ecosystem.
Ethiopia jumped from #26 to #12 globally in the 2025 Chainalysis Crypto Adoption Index, making it one of the fastest-rising crypto markets worldwide. The country led Sub-Saharan Africa in retail stablecoin adoption growth, driven by demand for dollar-denominated digital assets after the birr's devaluation. And now, thanks to EBW, local innovators can meet with international builders to network and grow together.
What to expect at Ethiopian Blockchain Week?
At the main conference, one can hear from international and local speakers. Whilst we also love the start-up pitch arena, where blockchain startups present their ideas directly to investors, venture capital firms, accelerators, and strategic partners for 3-minute pitches. There is also a special focus on business & compliance, enabling attendees to explore both Ethiopia’s regulatory landscape as well as learn about new strategies for building sustainable Web3 businesses.
What we particularly like about the conference is its strong emphasis on community building. Alongside founders, developers, investors, and entrepreneurs, the event actively involves students, volunteers, local communities, and emerging startups, making it an accessible platform for anyone interested in blockchain innovation and the space across Africa.
For instance, by means of a 48- hour hackathon, builders are encouraged to compete and collaborate with mentors to showcase their projects. Also at the workshops, learning sessions can be attended that concern smart contracts, DeFi, and Web3 development.
As for the location itself, the conference will be held in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, known as the country’s commercial and cultural hub. Fun fact: it’s the fourth-highest capital city in the world and the highest capital in Africa!
