In today’s
EcstaSHE Spotlight Series, we’re thrilld to feature yet another outstanding Web3 builder to learn more about her thoughts and insights on the Web3 space. Indeed, Dr. Lisa Cameron is an authority in Web3, who has also held various government positions in the United Kingdom. Get ready to hear from her.

Dr. Lisa Cameron is a former member of  the UK Parliament (2015-2024). She led the House of Commons’ first Cryptocurrency & Digital Assets All Party Parliamentary Group. Interestingly, she also developed a programme of education for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Lords to learn emerging technologies. Greengage, in their 2024 publication of Digital Parliamentarians, highlighted Dr. Lisa as the MP who had raised cryptocurrency and digital assets more than any other. Now, Dr. Cameron is leading the Digital Assets Global Forum and is also the founder of the UKUS Crypto Alliance, furthering her work on regulation and global policy making. In 2025, Dr. Cameron won the Outstanding Industry Influencer of the Year at the Digital Commonwealth Awards.

We’re pleased to learn more about her work and thoughts on the Web3 space.

What are you currently working on that has a link to crypto, and why are you doing this?

This year, I founded the UKUS Crypto Alliance to build links in policy and regulation between the UK and the US on tech developments. The US has pivoted to enable technology to build growth within its economy, and I would like the UK to do the same.

It is important to stay abreast of technological developments and maintain a leadership position globally. So, for MPs to collaborate with other jurisdictions, it's helpful to build a 'can-do' mindset.

Do you see any parallels between the digital assets industry and politics? If so, what are they?

In both sectors, it is important to stay open to change, and to be flexible and visionary about the economy and jobs of the future. There should be partnership and collaboration between the sectors, as MPs can learn so much about emerging technology and its impact on their constituents' lives so to develop pragmatic legislation.

Tech companies can learn how policy is made and engage proactively and positively to build trust and restore reputational concerns.

What’s the most valuable career tip you’ve learned throughout your career that others should know about?

I think it is important to listen to people's concerns and to be willing to revise and adapt policy to the changing terrain. A politician with their head in the sand is never going to see what is around the corner.

Also, when it comes to legislation, often less is more. We don't need endless red tape; we need what essentially works to protect consumers, but aside from that, we should let businesses thrive.

Tell us what advice you would give to women getting started in male-dominated industries such as crypto or, arguably, politics?

You will be a role model to so many young women coming behind you.  Always remember to help more people come on board through offering placements, work experience and your time. When I was growing up, I would never have imagined I could ever become an MP. In one generation, however, through experience, my daughters now know that it's possible!
